The School: Leagrave Primary School

Having worked with several primary schools in Luton such as Beech Hill and Beechwood, Leagrave Primary had the chance to join in and start their enterprise education adventure. At the whole school assembly, tension was high as all the students waited in anticipation to find out about the day’s challenge and the skills they would be developing.

The Challenge: A Day in Politics

With the General Election only a few weeks ago, the students were set the challenge of creating their own political parties. Leagrave students had to use their Working in a Team skills to create new political parties. Students were taking part in debates, writing manifestos and designing party loot including rosettes and posters. At the end of the day, each class took part in a hustings and voted for their preferred political party.

The Results:

Throughout the day, children displayed their Working in a Team and Sharing Ideas skills to work collaboratively and convince their peers that their party had the most coherent philosophy. All the adults involved were amazed with what they saw – every child involved grew in confidence as the day progressed and successfully demonstrated their Sharing Ideas skills – no small feat! Every student from Years 1 to 6 finished the day as a proud member of their party and left the school adorned in paraphernalia including hats, bracelets and badges. Well done Leagrave!

What they said:

  • “The whole day has been incredible. The resources were great and all ready to use. The children were sceptical at the start but all dived into the experience. They learnt the importance of teamwork and planning ahead. A member of my class told me ‘it was so much fun and the best day at school.’”- Teacher, Year 5
  • “Every child has loved today and got involved; it’s been great to see different children grow in confidence and share more ideas over the day.” – Teacher, Year 1
  • “I wanted to choose the environment because I like everything being clean but my team wanted other things, so I helped them.” – Student, Year 3
  • “I liked learning about politics because now I can go home and debate with my parents.” – Student, Year 6

Well done to everyone who was involved.
