The School: Tenterfields Primary School

Tenterfields Primary School is a one-form entry school located in Halesowen. Students across the school are very familiar with the enterprise skills having worked with Enabling Enterprise for three years. This year they have been developing their skills by taking part in a variety of Lesson-Time Projects. Alongside this, many students have participated in Enterprise visits to employers such as Lovell and Morgan Motors.

Newman University, Birmingham

Founded in 1968 and based eight miles south-west of Birmingham city centre, Nemwan University offers degrees in teacher education and a broad range of human and social sciences.

The Challenge: University Challenge

Key Stage 2 pupils from Tenterfields Primary School arrived at Newman University excited to learn about the lives of university students and their enterprise challenge. After meeting and interviewing student ambassadors, the children were taken on a tour of the campus to learn more about both academic and social life at university. Enthused by this experience, the children embraced the challenge to create a new society for students at the university.

The Results:

The children well demonstrated their skills, Working in a Team and Using Imagination brilliantly. The teams created a number of exciting new societies for Newman University students including Gaming and Chocolate societies. The all-round inventiveness, creativity and persuasive presenting meant that it was a challenge for the judges’ to reach a decision.

What they said:

  • “The children really enjoyed their day at Newman University. They loved learning about what a university is and how it works. It made them think about their own future careers and the possibility of going to university.” – Teacher, Tenterfields Primary School
  • “The activities set by EE were brilliant! I could see the children really enjoyed working in their teams to showcase their achievements.” – Student Volunteer, Newman University
  • “I love working in a team and I have never been to a university before. I enjoyed learning about John Henry Newman who founded the university.” – Student, Tenterfields Primary School

Thanks to Newman University for hosting such a great trip, and to the Key Stage Two pupils from Tenterfields Primary School for coming along.
