The School: Brackenbury Primary School

Brackenbury Primary School, based in Hammersmith, have been on the Enabling Enterprise Year Group Focus programme for five years. Each year, their Year 5 students experience enterprise through projects and Challenge Days such as ‘Future Transport‘ to develop their core skills, as well as attending exciting business trips, all in preparation for their Year 6 studies.

The Business: London Business School, London

London Business School offers world-class Business masters and non-masters degrees for postgraduates, giving them the advantage of global links and international recognition. Their programmes have been given the accolade of being amongst the world’s best, according to the Financial Times.

Today, the students were joined by 12 ambassadors from LBS, who brought with them a wealth of enthusiasm and experiences of university life from across the globe!

The Challenge: University Challenge

After getting into teams, the children began the day by researching different courses and societies within the school and finding out more information about student life from their ambassadors, before going on a tour of the excellent facilities at LBS. This was an opportunity to explore life on campus, taking in the courtyards, living quarters, dining areas and lecture suites, whilst learning about how key enterprise skills like Listening Carefully and Sharing Ideas were used by students and staff.

The children then used their Working in a Team skills to brainstorm a new Students’ society that would be novel, exciting and attractive to themselves and the students. Some fantastic ideas included the Skydiving Opera society (“Sing and Fall, you can do it all!”), and the ‘Gliding Punch’ Boxing and Dancing group. Teams then worked hard Using Imagination to create memorable logos, and designed posters and badges to advertise their welcome events before presenting all their ideas at Societies Stalls in a Freshers’ Fair.

The Results:

All of the teams worked really hard and demonstrated great Working in a Team skills throughout the day. Some students showed off their great Leading skills to gently guide their groups through the tasks and assign roles (including to their student ambassadors!) whilst others were Using Imagination at the highest standard. The day ended with all of the students confidently Sharing Ideas from the day with the ambassadors from LBS, who were inspired to sign up by the teams’ enthusiastic pitches and range of freebies!

What they said:

  • “It’s great to see the creativity flowing as the kids took on this unique task. The ambassadors have helped them hugely to provide their first thoughts about university, whilst working with them to develop their presentation skills.” – Teacher, Brackenbury Primary School
  • “I really enjoyed seeing the students’ confidence improving as they presented more and more.” – Ambassador, London Business School
  • “I didn’t know there was so much to do at University!” – Student, Brackenbury Primary School

Thanks to London Business School for such a great trip day, and to Year 5 from Brackenbury Primary School for wowing us with their creative ideas!
