The Schools: Filton Avenue Primary School, Hawkesbury Primary School, Dundry C of E Primary School and Trinity Church School

Children from Filton Avenue Primary School, Hawkesbury Primary School, Dundry C of E Primary School and Trinity Church School were selected to take part in an exciting trip to ALD Automotive and were eager to embark on their first enterprise challenge. Everyone was keen to show off their enterprise skills to their teachers and teammates, as well as to the employees from the business.

The Business: ALD Automotive, Bristol

ALD Automotive is a French car leasing company owned by the bank Société Générale. The company is active internationally and manages around 1.2 million vehicles in 40 countries, with most of their fleet based in Europe.

The Challenge: Recruitment Race

A warm welcome from ALD Automotive awaited the enthusiastic teams and within minutes points were being scored for Listening Carefully as the children found out lots about ALD Automotive, the world of recruitment and the skills needed to specialise in Human Resources. They were set the task of recruiting new staff members to join departments within the expanding organisation, so it was vital to focus on Problem Solving and Leading.

The Results:

Before a thorough tour of the office and different departments, all of the pupils impressed the ALD Automotive employees with the thoughtful questions they asked about their jobs and how they use the enterprise skills. Teams then took on the role of HR Consultants – Listening Carefully to interview answers and Problem Solving to find the best person to put forward for the vacant role. The sharing of ideas, analysis of information and desire to do a great job together certainly impressed the ALD Automotive experts and it was clear that we had some budding HR Consultants in the room!

What they said:

  • “Today’s been great! It’s so good to get them out into the world of work and show them what it looks like. It’s been challenging for the students but they’ve done really well.” – Teacher, Filton Avenue Primary School
  • ” I was pleased to see that all the activities were time-bound – mirroring the world of work.” – Volunteer, ALD Automotive
  • ” A really fun day and challenging for me as a volunteer too. The students clearly made progress on their confidence as well as listening and communication. The day was well-organised and the content was great!” – Volunteer, ALD Automotive
  • “I’m really proud of our teamwork today. We are working with people who aren’t in our class and have had to listen to each other and pull together as a team.” – Student, Trinity Church School
  • “I’ve really enjoyed presenting and working out what we were all going to say. We had to work under time pressure and I liked it!” – Student, Hawkesbury Primary School

Thanks to ALD Automotive for such a great trip, and to Filton Avenue Primary School, Hawkesbury Primary School, Dundry C of E Primary School and Trinity Church School for coming along.
