The Schools: Kinlet C of E Primary School and Farlow CE Primary School

Kinlet C of E Primary School and Farlow CE Primary School are both small, rural schools in Shropshire in their first year of working with Enabling Enterprise. Pupils have been developing their Enterprise Skills through Lesson-Time Projects, such as ‘Gallery Opening’ and ‘Design Company’, as well as an exciting business trip to construction company Bouygues (formerly known as Thomas Vale). Kinlet C of E Primary School were excited to welcome Farlow CE Primary School to embark on their first Challenge Day together. All of the children were looking forward to showing their teachers how well they were developing their Enterprise Skills!

The Challenge: Operation Moonbase

At the start of the day, the children learnt that Planet Earth is overcrowded and urgent help is needed for humans to set up a new colony on Utopia, a newly-discovered distant planet. Operation Moonbase began with the children learning about the different people and jobs that make up a society, before using their Problem Solving skills and Working in a Team to decide on their crew. Using Imagination, they then designed and built their ideal city, thinking carefully about which buildings would be useful based on the planet’s environment. All of the teams were Aiming High to build the best society they could.

The Results:

Throughout the day, it was brilliant to see children from the two schools coming together and collaborating effectively, ensuring that they were Listening Carefully to each member of their team. It was also impressive to see the children’s imaginations in action as they designed and built their Moonbases. The schools have exciting plans to continue working on the challenge together and by the end of the day, Farlow CE Primary School didn’t want to leave!

What they said:

  • “It’s been amazing. I’ve definitely seen potential in children who don’t usually participate.” – Teacher, Farlow CE Primary School
  • “It’s been a great day; the children were really into it! I’ve seen improvements in their skills, especially teamwork as they were having to work with children from another school, which was challenging for them.” – Teacher, Kinlet C of E Primary School
  • “At first I was worried about working with another school but I have really enjoyed it and my teamwork has got better. I need to stay positive and turn a negative into something positive!” – Student, Year 6, Kinlet C of E Primary School

Well done to everyone who was involved!
