The School: Rush Green

Today marks the first Enabling Enterprise experience Rush Green students will take part in. Located in Romford, Rush Green are committed to embedding core skills into their curriculum. Later in the week, their year 6 students will be Using Imagination and Working in a Team to start their very own businesses as part of Enabling Enterprise’s ‘Big Business Challenge.’ This is a chance for them to practice their skills ready for this challenge.

The Challenge: Future Transport

The day started with an assembly where students were introduced to the concept of transport and the different methods we currently use. Then Ronnie, our friend from the future informed them that these types of transport won’t work in the difficult and varied environments that exist in a thousand years’ time. Students then spent the morning analysing transport, Using Imagination to design their very own ‘Future Transport’. They had to think about its appearance, size and how well it adapts to the different environments, all whilst sticking to a strict budget.

The Results:

The afternoon really put our Rush Green Transport Designers to the test. Sticking closely to their design specifications, they were now tasked with building a prototype of their Future Transport. Rush Green students displayed fantastic Working in a Team skills as they helped each other build their prototype by taking on different roles and ensuring everyone had a part to play. They then honed their Sharing Ideas skills by testing their models and showing off what they had created.

What they said:

  • “They are absolutely loving this, I am amazed at all the creative ideas they have come up with.” – Teacher, Year 2
  • “They have really surprised me at how well thought out their decisions are and how honest they have been in their reflections on the skills.” – Teacher, Year 5
  • “I think we have shown great teamwork when making decisions. It wasn’t just one person’s idea, we put all our ideas together.” – Student, Year 6
  • “We have used our imagination because we thought of something that has never been made before in the whole world.” – Student, Year 3

Well done to everyone who was involved.
