The School: Whitemoor Priamry Academy

It was a warm welcome that awaited the Enabling Enterprise team at Whitemoor Primary Academy, in Nottingham. Having worked with Enabling Enterprise for five years, the school always look forward to their enterprise Challenge Days as an opportunity for their pupils to showcase their skills.

The Challenge: Crime Scene

A visit during a special assembly from DCI Dann shocked students as it was discovered that, over night, all the sweet treats in their school kitchen had been stolen! The whole school were keen to find the perpetrator and agreed to become ‘new recruits’ to work with DCI Dann. It was their job to find out about how detectives and crime scene investigators solve crimes and use these strategies in their teams to investigate the case. Teams listened carefully, shared ideas and considered a wide range of evidence, including a visit to the scene of the crime to hunt for clues.

The Results:

Throughout the day it was brilliant to see students in all classrooms making links between what they already knew about the suspects and the clues they were presented with.
Sharing ideas and asking questions to solve problems, really got the teams working together to make decisions as they ‘closed in’ on their prime suspect. The enterprising detective teams even presented their case – showing increased confidence and a real sense of pride in their work. Reflections at the end of the day saw teams being able to identify the enterprise skills they had needed to use and it was agreed that all ‘new recruits’ had done a super job. Case closed!

What they said:

  • “This has been another brilliant day. It’s so positive to see the children buzzing – even at lunchtime they were discussing their evidence!” – Teacher, Year 2 Whitemoor Primary Academy
  • “It’s great how, on days like these, the quieter children can find their voices. It’s so good to see them more confident and contributing to their terms – it levels the playing field!” – Teacher, Year 4 Whitemoor Primary Academy
  • “I wouldn’t have chosen to work with these people but as a team we have worked really well together. I’d definitely like to be in this team again using our skills together. We are a great team!” – Student, Year 3 Whitemoor Primary Academy

Well done to everyone who was involved.
