The School: Montpelier Primary School

Montpelier Primary School in Ealing is a Development Primary School who are now in their third year of working with Enabling Enterprise. The school has a passion for developing students’ enterprise skills and teachers and staff work hard to ensure every child has the opportunity to practise, apply and reflect on these. This year they are developing key enterprise skills in their students through lesson time projects. Year 4’s have also been on trips to businesses such as to Brewin Dolphin and Hounslow Highways among many others.

The Challenge: Future Transport

A special assembly kicked off the day at Montpelier: Ronnie the Robot has been sent back from the year 3030 on the hunt for transport designers for the future. The year 3030 looks very different, with environments that the current transport of 2017 will no longer be suitable for. Ice cities, desert expanses, busy urban areas and toxic jungles all require a new form of transport for the generations of the future. The students quickly worked together in their teams to analyse the future environments and think about current transport features. They then shared their creative ideas to come up with a brand new type of transport.

The Results:

Students across the whole school showed excellent teamwork by taking turns, especially practicing the skill of Listening Carefully to each other and ensuring they all took responsibility for their tasks. It was amazing to see how students in all year groups kept refining their ideas the more they talked through their designs with their team members. Their Creativity resulted in some excellent ideas and some outstanding designs. There was a range of hybrid vehicles, including lots of jet packs, in all classes at Montpelier and their projects were ambitious, proving that they were Aiming High. Many teams also pushed themselves to consider sustainability in their designs, such as Year 2 students whose vehicles panted new trees as it made its way through the rainforest. The confidence and resilience they showed was testament to their Staying Positive skills.

What they said:

  • “Enabling Enterprise is my favourite time of year!” – Student, Year 4
  • “It’s great to see the children practicing their team work and working so well together.” – Teacher, Year 5
  • “I’m proud of my team because we’ve worked so hard. I can’t remember the last time we worked this hard!” – Student, Year 1

Well done to everyone who was involved; it was a great day!
