The School: Great Marlow School

Great Marlow School, in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, are new to the Enabling Enterprise programme this year. For this Year 10 class, today’s business trip followed up from a challenge day they had taken part in, introducing the eight enterprise skills through different professional situations. Having the opportunity to step into the world of work and engage in enterprise education was something the students were really excited about!

The Business: OMD, London

OMD is one of the most forward-thinking, creative, effective and innovative communications agencies in the UK. They have won numerous industry awards and clients currently include Walkers, Sony, Levi’s and many more organisation.

The Challenge: Marketing Managers

After meeting the volunteers and learning about what goes on inside a communications agency, the students were introduced to their challenge. Working in Teams, they were Being Creative and Problem Solving to create an innovative new dessert product and advertising campaign for Burger King. After learning about their target market and how best to engage them with their product, students created a mood board and final campaign; before presenting their ideas to the OMD judges.

The Results:

The standards were high and the competition ramped up at the end of the day when teams presented their ideas to the judges. The students excelled at demonstrating their enterprise skills. They impressed at Being Creative to brainstorm dessert combination designs, and displayed particular excellence when Working in a Team to transform these ideas into an advertising campaign. The volunteer judges remarked on the success of the presentations, which propelled the Skilbz team into a joint-first finish, alongside Marketing Madness.

What they said:

  • “The students’ display of professional attitudes today has been so impressive, they have been co-operating fantastically when Working in a Team to develop their advertising plans.” – Teacher, Great Marlow School
  • “It was great seeing the range of their imaginations and watching these ideas come together in a professional format” – Volunteer, OMD
  • “I enjoyed the challenge of thinking about the market when designing the dessert, we chose a range of seasonal flavours so the product is appealing all year round” – Student, Great Marlow School

Thanks to OMD for such a great trip day, and to Year 10 from Great Marlow School for brightening the day with their exciting ideas.
