The School: Preston Park Primary School

Wembley-based Preston Park is in their first year with Enabling Enterprise. So far this year, they have completed the ‘Construction Counts’ and ‘Food, Glorious Food’ Lesson-Time Projects in with Years 4 and 5. Today was a chance for the Year 5s to continue developing their key enterprise skills, this time in the world of work.

The Business: Multiplex, London

Multiplex is a leading global contractor with expertise across the entire property sector, delivering landmark property and infrastructure assets for more than 50 years. They are currently working on projects across London and the students were welcomed to the world of Construction by Suleman, Marc and James.

The Challenge: Brilliant Builds

After an introduction to our volunteers and a chance to find out more about how they use the enterprise skills in their roles at Multiplex, the children were taken on a fantastic tour of the new building site! The teams were then ready to take on the Brilliant Builds enterprise challenge. The area of Bogsby has a brownfield site in the centre of the community, which needs to be redeveloped! Working in Teams, the challenge was to redevelop the land and create a space that would benefit the local people and the environment.

The Results:

Both teams needed to Listen Carefully to the needs of the people of Bogsby and ensure that the new development was environmentally friendly. After choosing several useful buildings, the students were busy constructing their model and Staying Positive as they had to stick to a strict time limit! The final models certainly showed how the teams excelled at Using Imagination before Sharing Ideas in a formal presentation which impressed the Multiplex judges.
.

Thanks to Multiplex for such a great trip day, and to Year 5 from Preston Park Primary School for coming along.
