The School: Kingsbury Green Primary

Students at Kingsbury Green Primary in North London have been developing enterprise skills such as Aiming High and Listening Carefully for the past four years. Earlier this term, 30 lucky Year 4 students ventured out of school to retail property company Hammerson, based in Kings Cross. They learnt how to use enterprise skills in a challenge themed around designing a shopping centre.

Today was a chance for Year 4 to join forces with Year 5 for a new challenge, as they delved into the world of politics!

The Challenge: A Day in Politics

With a particular focus on Sharing Ideas, the children at Kingsbury Green Primary were challenged to create their own political party from scratch. Teams were charged with devising their own manifestos, generating campaign materials and ultimately presenting at hustings before a final ballot! It was clear from the onset that all teams were full of ambition when they tackled some of the big problems in our society, including healthcare, transport and the environment.

The Results:

Students impressed not only with their general knowledge of politics, but also in their group decision-making skills. The policies they came up with, as well as their detailed manifestos alongside the campaign materials they created (all under tight deadlines!), were a real testament to their Problem-Solving and Using Imagination skills. Throughout the day, school adults and EE staff alike were awarding teams plenty of points, with scoreboards in each classroom being filled for each of the eight enterprise skills. The suspense was tangible when teachers had to announce the results of the election, but one thing was certain: the country would be in safe hands with enterprising politicians such as these young minds!

What they said:

  • “It’s been really interesting hearing their ideas. They’ve got a lot out of the day.” – Teaching Assistant, Year 4
  • “We will help communities all around the country because we are great at communication and team work. Vote for us!” – Student, Year 5

Well done to everyone who was involved.
