The School: Beech Hill Primary School

Beech Hill Primary School in Luton is an Enabling Enterprise Primary School. This year they are developing eight key enterprise skills with a year group focus in Year 6. These students were involved in the first of two Challenge Days to be held this year and it was fundamental that they work together today to use their skills and develop a successful Greetings Card company.

The Challenge: Greetings Cards

Greetings Card challenges the pupils at Using Imagination and Working in a Team as together they must choose a theme for their cards, agree on a unique and exciting design and get a production line up and running in order to make and sell as many cards as possible before time runs out! Then Sharing Ideas becomes even more important as they must pitch to the judges and explain why their card company should be chosen as the winning team, using persuasive and formal language to describe their choices and challenges faced throughout the day.

The Results:

Competition was high amongst the students as they set about Listening Carefully to one another’s ideas and Problem Solving in order to make sure that they met the full demands of all the tasks. It didn’t take long for them to realise that the key to success was Staying Positive and learning from mistakes they made along the way. Early disagreements over team names and which theme to pick were moved on from swiftly as the pupils realised that staying focused on the task in hand and Aiming High were what mattered. It was impressive to hear them reflect on how they had improved as a team as the day went on and how the importance of Leading the whole team to victory outweighed individual preferences. The students did themselves proud and proved their Enterprise Skills are developing every day.

What they said:

  • “They were really engaged all day. It was also nice to see students sharing leadership when they both had strong personalities!” – Teacher, Year 6
  • “We were a bit weak at the start, but our weaknesses are stronger now.” – Student, Year 6
  • “I wouldn’t change anything because the day was really fun!” – Student, Year 6

Well done to everyone who was involved.
