The School: Matchborough First School Academy, Redditch

Matchborough First School Academy, in Redditch are in their third year with Enabling Enterprise. It was no surprise then that the teams entered the offices of Lex Autolease with confidence and excited smiles. With great knowledge of the skills, the teams jumped head first into the challenges of the day, ready for a day of trading!

The Business: Lex Autolease, Birmingham

Part of the Lloyds Banking Group, Lex Autolease is the UK’s leading fleet management specialist. Lex Autolease provide low-cost car & vehicle leasing for businesses.

The Challenge: Trading Triumphs

The Year 3 students were split into teams to take on the roles of stock market traders for the day, practising their problem-solving as they made fast-paced trading decisions based on up-to-the-minute news and Staying Positive when the markets did not work in their favour! After interviewing the staff and touring the building, the students worked together in their teams to analyse information from a number of market sources before making their three trades.

The Results:

Students took on the role of stock market traders, taking responsibility for their client’s £25,000 investment trying to make her as much return as possible in a series of quick-fire trading rounds. First, they became junior researchers and analysed information about four exciting companies. Then they decided on where to invest their clients’ money, before being alerted to the changes in the stock market! They applied their Listening Carefully skills by thinking carefully about the information and how it might affect their investments.

What they said:

  • “The children were able to see first-hand the range of roles within a company – The children really benefitted from interacting with the staff at Lex Autolease. It was a great experience.” – Assistant Head Teacher, Matchborough First School Academy
  • “I was curious about how the day would unfold but right from the start, I wasn’t disappointed. I felt it kept not only the children engaged but us as volunteers as we played an active role which was creative and enjoyable.” – Volunteer, Lex Autolease
  • “I loved going round and seeing all the different jobs, doing a presentation and making lots of money in my trades! ” – Student, Matchborough First School Academy

Thanks to Lex Autolease for such a great trip day, and to Year 3 from Matchborough First School Academy for coming along.
