The School: Ash Green School

Ash Green School, in Coventry began working in partnership with Enabling Enterprise this academic year and we were very excited to work with them on their second business trip! Year 10 students arrived eager, ready for a day of enterprise!

The Business: Hogarths

Set in 30 acres of countryside, Hogarths is a family-friendly luxury hotel that caters for overnight stays, weddings and conferences. Today a range of volunteers were on hand to help the budding entrepreneurs aim high and turn their ideas into a successful project.

The Challenge: Delightful Dos

The Year 10 students spent the first part of the challenge conducting some crucial market research by interviewing Hogarths staff about their roles and the skills they use in their day-to-day jobs. They then went on an exciting tour of the hotel which sparked their imagination for their project: to plan an engaging event at the hotel including content, promotion and pricing. This was sure to put their Problem Solving skills to the test as the event needed to be agreed by their teammates as well as being tailored to this luxury setting.

The Results:

A delicious lunch reinforced inspiration for the themed events and ideas that all teams came up with. Throughout the challenge, students benefited from expert advice from the Hogarths professionals. Whether in sales, marketing or event planning, there was a healthy level of competition between teams, who were all Aiming High with various themes from Victorian fairs to surprise birthdays. It was clear the enterprising teams had been Using Imagination to the highest standard. The day culminated with students pitching their event plans to a panel of Hogarths judges who had a tough job picking a winning team.

What they said:

  • ” From the trip students have learned to work with others that they wouldn’t usually work with and build connections with people they don’t usually speak with. It has made them appreciate the other subjects they are studying at school and the need to do well in them.” – Teacher, Ash Green School
  • “The young people on this trip have excelled! Their energy, creativity and attention to detail have been fantastic! We as a business embrace our local community and are delighted to support enterprise education. The business ideas from the students could well be used here.” – Volunteer, Hogarths
  • “I have learned that event planning requires a lot of effort, time and financing; but it can be fun!” – Student, Ash Green School

Thanks to Hogarths for such a great trip day, and to Years 10 from Ash Green School for coming along.
