The School: William Tyndale Primary School

Students at William Tyndale Primary have been doing Enabling Enterprise projects for several years. This year, they have already completed the Future Transport Challenge Day, during which they took on the roles of transport designers and testers. They Worked in Teams to create a new form of transport for the future.

Today was a great opportunity for them to build on the success of their in-school enterprise projects by travelling to the City for a finance-themed challenge at top business Societe Generale.

The Business: Societe Generale, London

Societe Generale is a French multinational banking and financial services company head-quartered in Paris. They are one of the largest European financial services groups. As a universal bank, Societe Generale not only offers Retail Banking in France but also International Banking, Financial Services and Corporate and Investment Banking, worldwide.

Today, volunteers from across the business, including Legal and Financial Services, joined William Tyndale students to support them in their challenge and offer expert advice about the world of financial trading.

The Challenge: Trading Triumphs

The opportunity to speak to enthusiastic Societe Generale employees really supported Enabling Enterprise’s desire for students to make links between what they are learning in school and the workplace. Students were put into teams and became stock market traders for the day. Challenged to invest the hard earned money of a special client, teams needed show they could Listen Carefully, take account of fluctuations occurring on the ‘stock market’ and make sound decisions for the benefit of their client.

The Results:

The fast paced challenge certainly tested all of the young entrepreneurs – they needed to dig deep, using their Problem Solving skills and demonstrating their ability to Stay Positive as markets fluctuated. Utilising their Maths knowledge from school effectively, all teams were able to check their calculations, confident their client would be more than happy with the return on their investment! Societe Generale volunteers were clearly impressed throughout the day, as enterprise points were awarded and the content of final presentations by all teams certainly put a smile on everyone’s faces.

What they said:

  • “A mind-stretching experience for all students involved!” – Teaching Assistant, William Tyndale Primary School
  • “It’s tough to make a decision about who’s the best trading team because you’ve all made such a high return for your client!” – Volunteer, Societe Generale
  • “Our team faced challenges but we’ve learnt that it’s not about how much money you make – it’s about how well you can bounce back when things go wrong!” – Student, William Tyndale Primary School

Thanks to Societe Generale for such a great trip day, and to Year 6 from William Tyndale Primary School for coming along.
