The School: Beechwood Primary School

Beechwood Primary School in Luton have been working with Enabling Enterprise for a few years now to develop their students’ key enterprise skills. This year each student will complete an enterprise project. In the Summer term for example, they will take part in the Greetings Card Challenge Day which will test their Using Imagination and Working in a Team skills. Today 30 lucky Year 4 and Year 5 students were invited to OMD in King’s Cross to find out about what they do and to further develop their enterprise skills.

The Business: OMD, London

OMD is one of the most forward-thinking, creative, effective and innovative communications agencies in the UK. They have won numerous industry awards and clients currently include Walkers, Sony, Levi’s and many more organisations.

The Challenge: Advertising Aces

Students were given the exciting challenge of creating a campaign to promote Disney’s new television series “The Lodge”. Having considered the target audience for this type of series, the Beechwood students took to their challenge with utmost confidence and worked in teams to generate some fantastic creative ideas as to which type of advertising campaign they wanted to create and the best places to select for this.

The Results:

The afternoon activities for the students involved a very insightful tour the OMD offices led by the volunteers, who were asked some fantastic questions to find out more about their role as well as some helpful top tips the budding entrepreneurs could apply to their challenge. The Beechwood students really impressed the OMD judges with their creative ideas for how to advertise “The Lodge” and with their confident presentations at the end of the day, really showing off their Sharing Ideas skills.

What they said:

  • “It has been great to see all the students so engaged and involved in the day and for them to have had such a brilliant insight into what OMD do.” – Teacher, Beechwood Primary School
  • “It was brilliant to see how much they all grew in confidence, even the quietest students at the start of the day stood up at the end and gave really confident presentations!” – Volunteer, OMD
  • “I really enjoyed being able to use my imagination with my team to think about how to get people to watch the programme.” – Student, Beechwood Primary School

Thanks to OMD for such a great trip day, and to Years 4 and 5 Beechwood Primary School for coming along.
