The School: Fossedene Primary School

Students at Fossdene Primary in Charlton, South East London have been developing enterprise skills such as Aiming High and Being Creative since 2015. This year, they have taken part in an Autumn term Enterprise Week, during which students completed projects ranging from designing a new chocolate bar to becoming eco warriors in their school. Year 6 students were even lucky enough to visit two top law firms, to learn more about what it takes to be a lawyer, following their Legal Eagles project.

The Challenge: A Day in Politics

Students from Reception to Year 6 explored the world of politics. Using their imagination to set up a series of new political parties, along with slogans and logos, and Problem Solving in teams to decide which areas of society they most want to support. The classes also had a chance to stretch their Sharing Ideas skills in a series of tense debates, on topics the students had chosen themselves.

The Results:

By the end of the day, the teams had shown a wide range of enterprise skills. They finished the day with an exciting hustings, Listening Carefully to the ideas of their opponents and Sharing Ideas of their own with the whole class. The students left having voted to decide who the elected party would be for their class.

What they said:

  • “Politics isn’t a topic we would normally visit in Year 2 but they’ve really surprised me today with their knowledge and how well they’ve demonstrated the enterprise skills.” – Teacher, Year 2
  • “I’ve learnt that if we work as a group, our ideas get better and we get smarter. We’ve helped each other to never give up.” – Student, Year 6

Well done to everyone who was involved.
