The School: Cranford Primary School

Cranford Primary School in Hounslow are dedicated to ensuring their students are fully equipped for the future by developing eight key enterprise skills throughout the school. As well as Challenge Days and Lesson-Time Projects, the students in Key Stage 2 visit top businesses all across London to apply their skills in the real world while also raising their aspirations for the future. Today a group of 30 Year 4 students visited BBC Worldwide to put their Working in a Team to the test whilst honing in on Problem Solving.

The Business: BBC Worldwide, London

BBC Worldwide Limited is the main commercial arm and a wholly owned subsidiary of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The students found out about how BBC sells channels such as BBC Earth to other countries all around the world. They were joined today by Chloe, Casper, Matt and Praveen who work at BBC Worldwide and helped our teams out with their challenge.

The Challenge: Recruitment Race

After a fantastic tour of the BBC Worldwide building the teams were introduced to the role of Human Resources within the BBC. They were to take on the role of recruiters to fill three important positions that had just become available, a cleaner, a receptionist and a finance manage. Could they demonstrate they had learnt enough about the world of work to make great choices?

The Results:

After Listening Carefully to the interviews of six candidates, the teams demonstrated how they could come to thoughtful decisions through Sharing Ideas about the best people for the vacancies at BBC Worldwide. These decisions were then shared with the judges and the rest of their class through impressive presentations, which saw every single person participate. A brilliant effort!

What they said:

  • “It’s been great to be able to bring them somewhere impressive like this and for them to have the chance to be successful and to have a really enjoyable time.” – Teacher, Cranford Primary School
  • “It’s been inspiring to work with you all and hear your presentations – you were very positive and confident!” – Volunteer, BBC Worldwide
  • “For us to work well in a team and solve problems we realised we needed to share ideas and listen to everybody before deciding.” – Student, Cranford Primary School

Thanks to BBC Worldwide for such a great trip day, and to Year 4 from Cranford Primary School for coming along.
