The School: Fryent Primary School

Fryent Primary are in their second year of their Enabling Enterprise partnership. Last year the school took part in the Creative Spaces Challenge Day, but today was a chance for Year 6 students to put their enterprise skills to the test at the Lendlease UK Headoffice. Year 6 will be drawing on the experience today as they take on a Lesson-time Project in the Summer Term.

The Business: Lendlease, London

With over 55 years’ experience, Lendlease is a leading international property and construction company with operations in Australia, Asia, Europe and the Americas. They create positive legacies from funding a project right through to developing and constructing state of the art buildings and infrastructure, including hospitals, roads and bridges.

The Challenge: Brilliant Builds

After a fantastic tour of the Lendlease offices and the different departments, including Legal and Finance, students were set to work Using Imagination to come up with great team names for their own construction company. Working in a Team , the challenge for the students was to redevelop a brownfield site in the town of Bogsby and create a space that would meet the needs of the local people and benefit the environment. Before Sharing Ideas and deciding what they were going to construct, they learned about the needs of the people of Bogsby and had to think carefully about what was essential and what was desirable to have in the town.

The Results:

Teams created a plan of the buildings on the site, working against the clock but Aiming High. The day ended by a round of professional presentations from the students, who were Sharing Ideas not only with each other, but also with the 5 judges from Lendlease.

Those were really impressed with the students’ creativity, teamwork and confidence. The teams had thought carefully about the wants and needs of the community and put together a persuasive pitch explaining why their planned site was the most suitable for the community. Their Leading skills were tested throughout the day and all students learnt what it meant to be an effective leader.

What they said:

  • “Getting to work inside a corporate environment was a brilliant experience for our students – life-long skills were learned and developed! Activities very hands-on and the session was very well planned catering to the learning levels of all the students. The volunteers worked amazingly well with all the pupils and inspired them to think about the professions they will do in the future.” – Teacher, Fryent Primary School
  • “A really fun day – great to see how far the students have come in just a few hours!” – Volunteer, Lendlease
  • “The best thing was the tour and designing our development. Our team did well with Staying Positive.” – Student, Fryent Primary School

Thanks to Lendlease for such a great trip day, and to Year 6 from Fryent Primary School for coming along.
