The School: Dollis Junior School

Dollis Junior School in Barnet have started working with Enabling Enterprise this year. Some lucky students have already enjoyed a trip where they engaged with the enterprise skills and today, every student from Year 3 to Year 6 were involved in the challenge. They had to develop Problem Solving skills while Working in a Team in their new role as police recruits!

The Challenge: Crime Scene Investigation

It was due to be a quiet Friday at Dollis Junior School, but instead students were briefed by Detective Daisy who told them about the ‘Sugar Snatcher’ and the shocking crime that was committed overnight. All of the chocolate in the school had been stolen! Working in teams, students were set the challenge of analysing lots of different pieces of evidence to decide who could have committed this crime. They had to listen carefully to make sure they had all the facts before making their final decision and presenting it back to the Case Officer.

The Results:

The Dollis Junior police recruits were fully engaged in the task of finding the culprit! Throughout the day the teams were rewarded with points for Listening Carefully to each other and Sharing Ideas in order to select the most compelling evidence which would prove their suspect guilty. The young detectives also took turns to visit the school’s crime scene where a range of additional clues were collected as accurately as possible.

There were some intense debates between teams as they tried to discover who had committed the crime. The investigation culminated in a round of impressively professional presentations, where teachers and EE staff alike praised their justifications and were impressed by the students Aiming High throughout the activities.

What they said:

  • “I’m really proud of all the hard work you’ve put into this. That’s impressive – from ALL of you! Look at how close the points are on the scoreboard…” – Teacher, Year 3
  • “We argued in the morning but then we tried really hard to work together and we agreed on the suspect.” – Student, Year 6

Well done to everyone who was involved.
