The School: Chase Side Primary School

Chase Side Primary School, in Enfield, have been working to develop their Enterprise skills over the past 4 years through a range of Challenge Days, Projects and Trips. The whole school, from Early Years through to Year 6, were Aiming High today as they engaged in their challenge. Many students worked together for the first time, with a very special experience in Years 5 and 6, where the classes were completely mixed! This added an extra element to the Problem Solving tasks.

The Challenge: Future Transport

Throughout the day, the teams demonstrated great collaborative and communication skills as they had to research, design, build and test a new form of transport for the future. Students considered different vehicles and a variety of challenging environments, before Sharing Ideas to design and build their own imaginative vehicle. The creative prototypes, made from recycled materials were certainly eye-catching and resourceful!

The Results:

It was great to see how the children developed in their ability to work together as a team and solve their own problems as they arose throughout the day. The Chase Side students excelled at Using Imagination in the design stage and there was a real sense of sharing of responsibility when time was getting tight towards the end of the day. The final models demonstrated how students had been Sharing Ideas throughout their challenge and their explanations showed their high level of engagement in building a new form of transport for the future.

What they said:

  • “It’s lovely to see some of the quieter students really stepping up and taking a lead” – Teacher, Year 5
  • “I really enjoyed the making part of the day, as we got to use our imaginations and put all our ideas together into one.” – Student, Year 3

Well done to everyone who was involved!
