The School: Morecambe Bay Community Primary School

Hot on the heels of their super successful Future Transport Challenge Day on Monday year 5 and 6 pupils from Morecambe Bay Community Primary School experienced their first Enabling Enterprise trip. It was a great way to continue to develop their Enterprise Skills and the to help them to understand that Using Imagination and Leading are as important in the world of work as they are in school.

The Business: Brewin Dolphin, Manchester

Brewin Dolphin is one of the UK’s leading providers of personalised, discretionary wealth management services, offering investment management and financial planning services to investors and intermediaries. With origins dating back to the mid-18th century, they were one of the founding firms of the London Stock Exchange. They have 28 offices throughout the UK & Ireland and have a wealth of experience dealing with investment markets. Their impressive office, situated in the heart of Manchester City centre, plus their friendly and engaging staff never fail to motivate the students to keep Aiming High both on the day and when they are back a school.

The Challenge: Trading Triumphs

Problem Solving and Staying Positive were the order of the day as the pupils took on the daunting task of being stock brokers. They need to make sure they were Listening Carefully to what their client wanted in order to invest in the best companies and make as much money as possible. The students were put through their paces analysing company profiles, listening to radio broadcasts and keeping up to date with events on social media.

The Results:

As the stock exchange there was still more work for the teams; now they had to feedback to their client and justify their investment decisions. By Working in a Team and ensuring that everybody took responsibility for explaining what they had done and how they had worked together to do it they all proved that they could excel in Sharing Ideas. The pupils worked hard all day and prove that they have what it takes to stay calm and succeed in the fast paced world of finance. Well done everyone!

What they said:

  • “What a pleasure it has been to watch our children grow in confidence, learn about a whole new world and stay positive at all times no matter what problems they encountered.” – Headteacher, Morecambe Bay Community Primary School
  • “They were great pupils to work with, they really threw themselves into the day and I was amazed at what they achieved.” – Volunteer, Brewin Dolphin
  • “Today was epic, I am definitely going to work here when I’m older!” – Student, Morecambe Bay Community Primary School

Thanks to Brewin Dolphin for such a great trip day, and to Years 5 and 6 from Morecambe Bay Community Primary School for coming along.
