The School: Holy Family Catholic Primary School

Holy Family Catholic Primary School in Cronton, near Widnes is a one form entry school who are working with Enabling Enterprise for the first time this year. The whole school, including Reception, had a fantastic day taking part in the Greetings Card Challenge Day. Year 4 and 5 pupils will continue their enterprise education shortly by starting their Lesson Time Projects and Year 6 will follow in the Summer term.

The Challenge: Greeting Cards

Greetings Card challenges the pupils at Using Imagination and Working in a Team as together they must choose a theme for their cards, agree on a design and get a production line up and running in order to make and sell as many cards as possible before times run out. Then Sharing Ideas becomes even more important as they must pitch to the judges and explain why their care company should be chosen as the winning team. An exciting and fast paced way to get Primary enterprise up and running.

The Results:

The atmosphere in school was electric as the pupils set about Listening Carefully to one another’s ideas and Problem Solving in order to make sure that they met the full demands of all the tasks. It didn’t take long for them to realise that the key to success was Staying Positive and learning from mistakes they made along the way. Early disagreements over team names and which theme to pick were moved on from swiftly as the pupils realised that staying focused on the task in hand and Aiming High were what mattered. It was superb to hear them reflect on how they had improved as a team as the day went on and how the importance of Leading the whole team to victory outweighed individual preferences. The students did themselves proud and proved their Enterprise Skills are developing every day.

What they said:

  • “It was great to watch them as the day went on, the children who had been quite bossy in the morning were listening much better and working as a team by the afternoon.” – Teacher, Year 1
  • “There were lots of different challenges throughout the day so I really feel like I had the opportunity to develop all of the eight skills.” – Student, Year 4
  • “I wasn’t sure that we were going to be able to sell our card to the shop for as much as we wanted, but then I remembered this thing we do in literacy called persuasive language, and I decided to use that to try and get a better price!.” – Student, Year 3

Well done to everyone who was involved.
