The School: Clifton Primary

Clifton Primary School, based in Southall, is a brand new school to the Enabling Enterprise programme. The year 3 classes began their enterprise learning with the Trash to Treasure project earlier this year and Year 5 and 6 will be developing their enterprise skills further in the Summer term when they take part in their projects. Today was the school’s first experience of a Challenge Day and Year 4 and 5’s first encounter with enterprise education.

The Challenge: Greetings Card Challenge

To be successful in the Challenge, the pupils were asked to Listen Carefully to the brief and to one another as they Shared Ideas to design an exciting and unique set of greetings cards. The students then used their Problem Solving skills, as they thought about the resources they would need to ensure they were fully equipped to begin their greetings card production line, all without going over budget. Students then demonstrated their expertise at Leading and Working in a Team as they collaborated in an efficient production line, enabling them to make as many identical cards as possible to be sold back to the EE Shop in a bid to generate the highest possible profit.

The Results:

The greetings cards produced across the two year groups were very impressive. It was fantastic to see teams pushing themselves to make cards of the highest quality. The card companies worked against the clock to spend their start-up budget on resources and then set up a production line to produce top-quality cards. It was then time for our young entrepreneurs to share the skills they had used and developed throughout the challenge.

What they said:

  • “These are valuable skills that they’ll leave school with today.” – Teacher, Year 5
  • “The challenge day is amazing for their skills. You show them where they should be (with their skills) and get them to reach that target. They’ve made so much progress today and have been allowed to pursue their creativity too.” – Teacher, Year 4
  • “It was easy to make four cards. We gave each other jobs and roles, then we worked together to make our cards effectively.” – Student, Year 5

Well done to everyone who was involved.
