The School: Viking Primary School

Viking Primary School, based in Northolt, are brand new to the Enabling Enterprise programme. Today was their first experience of a challenge day and the eight enterprise skills, and the staff and students were eager to immerse themselves into enterprise education. Today’s challenge was sure to test their Problem Solving and Staying Positive skills and would require lots of Sharing of Ideas in order to be successful.

The Challenge: Crime Scene Challenge

It was due to be a quiet Thursday at Viking Primary but instead, students were briefed by Detective Daisy, who told them about the ‘Sugar Snatcher’ and the shocking crime that had been committed that morning… all of the chocolate in the school had been stolen! Working in teams, students from Year 3 to 6 were set the challenge of analysing lots of different pieces of evidence to decide who could have committed this crime. They had to Listen Carefully to make sure they had all the facts before Sharing Ideas to make their final decision and presenting it back to the Case Officer.

The Results:

Students had to work in teams to use their Problem-Solving skills all day and decide who the culprit was. Throughout the day, the teams were rewarded with points for Listening Carefully to each other and Working in a Team in order to select the most compelling evidence which would prove their suspect guilty. The young detectives also took turns to visit the school’s crime scene where a range of additional clues were collected as accurately as possible.

Teams Aimed High and managed to Stay Positive as the evidence led to some intense debates at times! The investigation culminated in a round of impressively professional presentations, where teachers and EE staff alike praised the style and critical thinking that was demonstrated by the future CSIs.

What they said:

  • “The students were immersed in the learning today. A quick-paced and stretching day.” – Teacher, Year 3
  • “We learnt how to work in a team with people we don’t play with.” – Student, Year 3
  • “We had to use problem-solving to link together the pieces of evidence and find the suspect.” – Student, Year 5

Well done to everyone who was involved.
