It was a great pleasure to visit Plaistow Primary School in Newham on Thursday 1st December and see students make their final presentations. Year 4 have been following our Trash to Treasure Module which challenges students to work together to design and create an environmentally friendly toy over a ten week period.

Having met some of the students at our business event at Freshfields the previous week, my expectations were high. Teams in each class presented their toys and talked about the challenges they faced along the way. Exploring the theme of sustainability, students explained what recycled materials they used to make their toys.

I was struck by the innovative, often large scale prototypes students presented, but also by how they helped each other out when presenting and the quick thinking they showed in answering questions asked by myself and peers.

I’d like to say a big thank you to Miss Baker, Miss Moses and Miss Khanom for inviting me, to the students for making me feel so welcome and give a special mention to Team Adidas who named their toy….. Mr Mike!
