The Schools: Pinner Park Junior School and Davies Lane Primary

Pinner Park Junior based in Harrow and Davies Lane Primary in Waltham Forest are both in their second year of working with Enabling Enterprise. On this occasion students from Year 6 travelled into Baker Street to spend an exciting day applying their enterprise skills by working as Management Consultants alongside Oliver Wyman employees in order to rebrand a failing airline.

The Business: Oliver Wyman

Oliver Wyman is an international management consultancy company, helping businesses to solve their biggest challenges. Most recently, this has included the re-branding of Starbucks and McDonald’s.

The Challenge: High Fliers

The day began with teams meeting their volunteers and applying the Listening Carefully skill when learning about the different job roles at Oliver Wyman and how the volunteers use the Enterprise Skills at work. After finding out more about the consultancy business, the mixed teams of students were set the task of rebranding a failing airline and Sharing Ideas to come up with a new marketing campaign to support the rejuvenation of the airline. They worked together to decide on who their target market should be, before Using Imagination to design campaign posters and create the most persuasive slogans.

The Results:

Oliver Wyman volunteers commented on how every team was Aiming High to make their campaign stand out from the competition. After lunch, it was also evident that Working in a Team and Problem Solving would be crucial in order to meet their tight deadline. Nonetheless, students excelled at Staying Positive as they moved on to planning and practising their persuasive pitches for the CEO of United Jetways. Finally, the day culminated with a pitch to the CEO of the airline who had a tough job choosing the winning consultancy firm.

What they said:

  • “One of the best things about this day was our pupils working with children from another school, having the chance to develop a range of skills and be inspired by an office environment.” – Teacher, Davies Lane
  • “It amazed me how confident students of their age were when presenting and how they were able to improvise when being questioned by the CEO.” – Volunteer, Oliver Wyman
  • “We know we’ve been one of the best at showing good teamwork because we’re actually listening to each other.”- Student, Pinner Park Junior School – Year 6

Thanks to Oliver Wyman for such a great trip day, and to Year 6 from Pinner Park Junior and Davies Lane for coming along.
