The School: Gilbertstone Primary School

Gilbertstone Primary School in Birmingham are now in their third year with Enabling Enterprise. Year 5 pupils were ready to apply their fantastic enterprise skills to a business challenge at Eversheds. From the beginning of the day, it was clear that the students were enthusiastic to learn about the legal profession. Gilbertstone students were also eager to apply skills such as Listening Carefully and Sharing Ideas in a real world context during the Ace Advocates challenge.

The Business: Eversheds, Birmingham

Eversheds is one of the world’s largest corporate law firms, with over 40 offices based in the world’s major economic centres. They employ just under 3,000 people.

The Challenge: Ace Advocates

Students were put into teams and given a client to represent. Using the expertise of our volunteers, students had to carefully consider all the information about their client and think about what might help and harm their case. Demonstrating excellent team work skills, they were all prepared to fight for their client!

The Results:

After practising a compelling argument, all teams successfully shared their ideas clearly and professionally. Surprisingly, nearly all the teams were able to come to a compromise with their opposing team and stay positive in a very tricky negotiation task!

What they said:

  • ” The children really enjoyed the day and got involved. I think they got a lot out of the day and were able to experience a solicitor’s job.” – Teacher, Gilbertstone Primary School
  • “The topics students were discussing were quite challenging and so it was amazing to see them doing so well, they worked together and supported each other which was lovely.” – Volunteer, Eversheds
  • “I have loved the task of constructing an argument for my client – can I stay here?!” – Student, Gilbertstone Primary School

Thanks to Eversheds for such a great trip day, and to Year 5 from Gilbertstone Primary School for coming along.
