The School: Foresters Primary School, Sutton

Foresters Primary School, based in Sutton, have been working with Enabling Enterprise for three years. They have previously completed the ‘Crime Scene’ and ‘A Day in Politics’ Challenge Days in school, where they put these skills to the test, particularly their Problem Solving ability and Working in a Team.

The Business: Metro Bank, Croydon in London

Metro Bank is Britain’s first new high street bank in over 100 years. Metro Bank offer a unique, customer-focused retail banking service; as a business they aim to make every effort to offer simpler and more convenient banking to their customers. Opening their 40th branch in December 2015 in Kent, Metro Bank aims to have 150 stores across the UK by 2020.

The Challenge: Trading Triumphs

After meeting with the volunteers and finding out a little bit more about what Metro Bank do, the students got down to business! Over the course of the day, teams worked together to make decisions about how best to invest their client, Dr Taylor’s money. By Listening Carefully to their volunteers and each other, the teams got lots of information about the different companies in which they could invest, before ensuring they used their Problem Solving and Staying Positive skills to get through the trade day!

The Results:

The students showed fantastic Problem Solving and Staying Positive skills throughout the day, making a great return for their client! They saw the vast amount of skill being used by the employees at the Metro Bank, before using these skills in their teams. At the end of the day, the teams presented their work to our judges who were thoroughly impressed by these future traders in the making!

What they said:

  • “The volunteers were fantastic and the students really enjoyed their time on the visit.” – Teacher, Foresters Primary School
  • “It was so rewarding to work with the students and they asked some fantastic questions about skills!” – Volunteer, Metro Bank, Croydon
  • “There were times when we struggled to stay positive but we showed good resilience and learnt about the stock market.” – Student, Foresters Primary School

Thanks to Metro Bank, Croydon for such a great trip, and to Year 5 from Foresters Primary School for coming along and making it a memorable day.
