The School: President Kennedy School Academy

Year 8 students from President Kennedy in Coventry kicked off their year of Secondary enterprise in the Midlands with a Master Class from their Education Associate, Amy Paull, where they were introduced to the enterprise skills they will be learning about and using as part of their Enabling Enterprise programme this year.

The Business: MHA MacIntyre Hudson, Birmingham

MHA MacIntyre Hudson is an established and successful independent Chartered Accountancy practice. From their office in Birmingham’s business district they provide accountancy and business advisory services to a wide range of companies and organisations. Students found it fascinating learning all about the different jobs and roles available in a company like this!

The Challenge: Trading Triumphs

Students were set the challenge of becoming stock market traders to help them learn about what it’s like to take calculated risks and how to deal with set-backs and stay positive. Using their enterprise skills, students were tasked with investing money into different companies and deciding which companies would provide the best return in shares. They then had to wait for their stock market update to see if they had chosen the right companies to invest in and made or lost money!

The Results:

Trading was overall very successful and all students had satisfied clients, but this was not without set-backs which students picked themselves from by Staying Positive and encouraging each other. The day ended with each team presenting their day’s trading to their client and other judges, explaining and justifying their choices and risks with Dr Taylor’s money!

What they said:

  • “An outstanding experience; the students are buzzing! Students were engaged throughout the day.” – Teacher, President Kennedy School
  • “It was a really successful day. All students got a lot out of it and thoroughly enjoyed the task.” – Volunteer, MHA MacIntyre Hudson
  • “I love this trip! It’s made me realise some of the other career paths I can take. I enjoyed the adrenaline rush!” – Student, President Kennedy School

Thanks to MHA MacIntyre Hudson for such a great trip day, and to Year 8 from President Kennedy School Academy for coming along.
