The Schools: Farlow C of E and Kinlet C of E Primary Schools

Farlow and Kinlet have recently joined the programme and launched their enterprise education in school this week with their first lesson time project and business trip. Year 6 pupils spent the day at Thomas Vale where they demonstrated their fantastic enterprise skills!

The Business: Thomas Vale, Stourport on Severn

Thomas Vale are a Midlands-based contractor with offices across Worcester, Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent. They deliver award-winning construction, development and regeneration projects across public and private sectors. It was great for pupils to learn about the wide variety of jobs within the company, as well as an understanding of the company’s responsibility for the environment and the people within the communities in which they build.

The Challenge: Brilliant Builds

Pupils embarked on the challenge of using their creativity and team working skills to design and create a new building in the town of ‘Bogsby’. They used their leadership skills throughout the challenge and solved the problem of how to incorporate the community’s wants and needs, as well as ensuring their new building was environmentally friendly.

The Results:

The day ended in pupils pitching their idea to the judges. They used excellent presentation skills and listened carefully to each other’s ideas. It was fantastic to see pupils staying positive and aiming high when they faced challenges such as agreeing on a design for the building. Everyone has such different and imaginative ideas!

What they said:

  • “It was a fantastic opportunity for children to get into a work environment and see the industry helping to educate young people about the jobs that are out there.” – Teacher, Kinlet C of E Primary School
  • “The day flowed really well and got the students motivated, giving them an insight into the industry. I was surprised at how imaginative they are!” – Volunteer, Thomas Vale
  • “I liked the tour where I got to learn about what the adults do here in their jobs and I got better at teamwork.” – Student, Farlow C of E Primary School

Thanks to Thomas Vale for such a great trip day, and to Year 6 from Farlow and Kinlet Primary Schools for coming along.
