The School: St Mark’s Primary

Merton-based St Mark’s Primary School are brand new to working with Enabling Enterprise. Next week, the whole school will launch a buzzing week of Primary enterprise with Lesson-Time Projects kicking off in all classrooms. In anticipation, today’s shocking news was the perfect opportunity for the whole school to put their enterprise skills to the test in a one-of-a-kind challenge that was sure to stretch their Working in a Team skills beyond what they had ever imagined.

The Challenge: Crime Scene

In a special assembly, the children learned that ‘The Sugar Snatcher’ had struck again: a criminal targeting schools across the country, stealing all the chocolate and sweet supplies from school kitchens and cupboards! Urgent help was needed to identify the culprit; fortunately, the new police recruits from St Mark’s Primary were up for the job! Working together, they collected and analysed evidence, thoroughly applied their Problem Solving skills and focused on Staying Positive as their investigation took shape.

The Results:

Throughout the day, it was brilliant to see students of all ages making links between what they already knew about the suspects from their literacy work and the clues they were presented with, in order to close in on their prime suspect. The enterprising detective teams even stood up in front of their classes and presented their cases – displaying increased confidence in public speaking and show casing their Leading skills. After reflecting on their successes and the skills they had excelled in, the day culminated with a shock confession from one of the suspects. Case closed!

What they said:

  • “What I think they gained from the experience is that at the start of the day, it was ‘all about me’, but by the end they were sharing out jobs and it was nice to see they’ve learnt to listen to one another.” – Support Staff, Year 2
  • “If it wasn’t for my team today, I would have felt lost in this challenge, but now I feel more confident.” – Student, Year 5

Well done to everyone who was involved.
