The School: The Alderton Junior School

The Alderton Junior School, located in Loughton, are in their second year of working with Enabling Enterprise. Students look forward to honing their enterprise skills in their Lesson-Time projects later in the year, which teachers plan to run as an exciting and engaging Enterprise Week! Today was an excellent opportunity for Year 6 students from a mixture of classes to learn about the Enabling Enterprise Challenge Skills in a fantastic location.

The Business: Clifford Chance, London

Clifford Chance is a multinational law firm. It is one of the ten largest law firms in the world, and employs over 3,400 lawyers. Today, volunteers from the London office of Clifford Chance, were joined by the legal team at J.P. Morgan. They supported teams of students during an introductory Q&A, the tour of the offices and whilst the students prepared for their final negotiations.

The Challenge: Ace Advocates

This challenge involves students taking on the roles of teams of top lawyers; it is their responsibility to argue on behalf of their client in a negotiation. Students learn about the legal system and how law firms support companies, corporations and small businesses with dispute resolution. Teams soon learn the importance of Sharing Ideas when they get introduced to their clients and learn a bit more about the disagreements taking place. Will they be able to come to a compromise to avoid anyone being taken to court? Let’s find out how they got on.

The Results:

After meeting their volunteers and learning about how lawyers use enterprise skills in their everyday jobs, the teams of students went on a tour of the Clifford Chance building. Over the course of day, it was great to see how these students, who hadn’t worked together before, were really supporting one another to share their idea and make tricky decisions.

What they said:

  • “This is the best trip I have been on, I would recommend this to any school!” – Teacher, The Alderton Junior School
  • “This has been such a rewarding experience. The students have really impressed me.” – Volunteer, J.P. Morgan
  • “I thought only lawyers worked at a law firm. I am going to be a fitness instructor at a law firm just like this!” – Student, The Alderton School

Thanks to Clifford Chance and J.P. Morgan for such a great trip day, and to Year 6 from The Alderton Junior School for coming along.
