The School: West Acton Primary

West Acton Primary School are brand new to working with Enabling Enterprise. Their values of being ambitious, inquisitive and collaborative chime perfectly with the all-important enterprise skills they are developing. Next month, a lucky few students will take part on an employer visit to see those skills in action in the world of work. Today was the chance for the whole school to excel at Working in a Team in a one-of-a-kind challenge.

The Challenge: Crime Scene

In a special assembly, the children learned that ‘The Sugar Snatcher’ had struck again: a criminal targeting schools across the country, stealing all the chocolate and sweet supplies from school kitchens and cupboards! Urgent help was needed to identify the culprit; fortunately, the new police recruits from West Acton Primary were up for the job! Working together, they collected and analysed evidence, stretched their Problem Solving skills and focused on Staying Positive as their investigation took shape.

The Results:

Throughout the day, it was brilliant to see students of all ages making links between what they already knew about the suspects from their literacy work and the clues they were presented with, in order to close in on their prime suspect. The enterprising detective teams even stood up in front of their classes and presented their cases – displaying increased confidence in public speaking and show casing their Leading skills. After reflecting on their successes and the skills they had excelled in, the day culminated with a shock confession from one of the suspects. Case closed!

What they said:

  • “Today I have seen students work better as a team compared to other lessons. It was lovely to see some of the stronger characters making sure they included everyone from their team.” – Support Staff, Year 1 and 6
  • “What surprised me today was how one person in our team was amazing at Staying Positive because she didn’t sulk when her idea wasn’t chosen and it meant our whole team stayed together all the way.” – Student, Year 6
  • “At the beginning our team felt broken, but one of my teammates really impressed me with his Problem Solving as he was excellent at piecing all the information together and that made us want to aim high.” – Student, Year 6

Well done to everyone who was involved.
