The School: Lavender Primary School

Lavender Primary School in Enfield have been working with Enabling Enterprise for a couple of years to develop their students’ enterprise skills. Last year they took part in the Challenge Day “A Day in Politics” where they set up and ran their own political parties before competing in an election at the end of the day. This year the whole school embarked on a new challenge to put their enterprise skills to the test with a special focus on Working in a Team and Using Imagination. Let’s see how they got on.

The Challenge: Business in a day

The day started with an assembly where the students were set the challenge of setting up their own pop-up business for the day, designing, making and selling their very own range of souvenirs for the Rio Olympics. This followed a whole week of work that the children had completed the week before on the upcoming Olympics so this was a fantastic opportunity for them to put all their knowledge and understanding into practice. Teams then had to come up with a series of creative items, plan their budgets and make prototypes, before pitching their company and gift ideas in a souvenir fair in their classrooms at the end of the day.

The Results:

During the day, the children showed great team working skills and used their imaginations to create a wide range of unique souvenirs. Teachers and Enabling Enterprise staff were particularly impressed to see how well the students grasped the concept of sticking to their budgets to maximise profits. Individuals were able to share their ideas with their team mates to ensure that everything really was the product of a team effort.

What they said:

  • “From the start of the day to the end of the challenge, I’ve really noticed a huge improvement in their ability to work as a team. They get so much better at sharing out roles and responsibilities.” – Teacher, Year 5
  • “I have learnt about business that it’s as easy as it looks. You just have to work hard and work together.” – Student, Year 2

Well done to everyone who was involved.
