The School: St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School

St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School are in their second year of working with Enabling Enterprise and this Challenge Day concludes another busy and enterprising year for the school. Students have taken part in a range of exciting lesson time projects and memorable business trips to Grand Central and Monarch Aircraft Engineering.

The Challenge: Future Transport

Ronnie the Robot returned from the future, traveling back from 3030 to 2016 to set pupils a very important challenge. Teams had to research, design, build and test a new form of transport for Ronnie and friends in the future. Students, from Year 1 to 5 considered different vehicles and a variety of challenging environments, before sharing ideas to design and build their own imaginative mode of transport. The creative prototypes, made from recycled materials were certainly eye catching!

The Results:

Teams embraced the challenge – the excitement and enthusiasm could be felt throughout the school. Students worked brilliantly well together, demonstrating real improvements in their collaborative skills and stretched their imaginations to solve a range of problems in order to design their new form of transport. Children talked of aiming high and remaining positive in order to complete the challenge and feeling proud of their achievements. They listened carefully to others and shared their ideas confidently to other groups at the end of the day. Teachers were delighted to be able to award skills points aplenty!

What they said:

  • “The day was well organised, the planning detailed and the resources spot on – clear and engaging for the children. It was a really great day. Thank you!”- Teacher, St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School
  • ” The children have impressed me. They have been focused and enthusiastic all day. It challenges flowed really well and their team work has definitely improved.” – Teaching Assistant, St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School
  • ” Do you like our vehicle? We’ve made sure we shared our ideas and worked well together in our team. It’s been fun. Can we do it again?” – Year 3 Student, St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School

Well done to everyone who was involved in such a super day.
