The School: Beech Hill Primary

Beech Hill Community Primary School have been working with Enabling Enterprise for the last two years, supporting their students to develop key skills for life. More recently these Year 6 children took part in the ‘Business in a Day’ challenge, coming up with their very own range of souvenirs customised to their local area – those were so creative they were promising to sell out!

The Business: Argent Kings Cross, London

Argent are high-end property developers involved in the full development process – from identifying and assembling sites, developing designs and obtaining planning permission through to financing, project management of the construction process, letting, asset management and sometimes selling.

The Challenge: Amazing Spaces

Over the course of the day, these Year 6 children had to go through a design process to create an imaginative and practical public seating area for the new development in Kings Cross. This involved finding out from their volunteer from the company, Jane, as much as they could about the site and what was possible. Following this, a tour around the public spaces in the new Kings Cross site gave them lots of inspiration.

The Results:

Coming up with the themes of football, candy and nature, the ideas between the teams clearly showed Using Imagination at an expert level! Having learnt such a lot about how the site they were on had been developed and who uses it, the students were soon able to apply their understanding to come up with some fun and imaginative ideas for seating – from bouncing mushrooms to seats in the shape of a football boot. The students really showed how they had progressed through the day when they impressed the judges with the professional and thoughtful pitches they delivered at the end of the day.

What they said:

  • “It was great for the children to really see a place like this and it will spark ideas about what they can achieve in the future.” – Teacher, Beech Hill
  • “It was great to see the inspiration their visit gave them in terms of their ideas, and it was impressive that they all seemed confident in their presentations – even presenting to new people.” – Jane, Argent
  • “It was really fun to get to know about the building around here, and know how to be a successful entrepreneur!” – Student, Beech Hill

Thanks to Argent for such a great trip day, and to Year 6 from Beech Hill Community Primary School for coming along.
