The School: Queenswell Junior School

Located in Whetstone, London, Queenswell Junior School have been working with Enabling Enterprise since 2012. Year 5 have been working on lesson time projects and students are always ready and set to use their Enterprise Skills on trips and whole-school events. Today was a great way to embed all the positive experience to date with an exciting crime scene investigation that would put the students’ skills to the test, especially Sharing Ideas and Problem Solving.

The Challenge: Crime Scene

The day began with an assembly, where students were told they needed to use evidence to discover who had stolen all of the chocolate from the school kitchen. This challenge required pupils to use their problem-solving skills in order to analyse the different evidence provided by the police and from the scene of the crime. Students needed to work in their teams to understand who they thought the guilty perpetrator was from the line-up of fairy tale characters suspects.

The Results:

Working within very tight deadlines, students aimed high and worked extremely well in teams to analyse the evidence and present clearly who they thought the guilty suspect was. Teams then prepared, rehearsed and delivered persuasive presentations to showcase all of their hard work in a bid to bring justice back to Queenswell.

The students were buzzing with excitement all day and school staff commented on the enthusiasm and increased confidence they had witnessed as the investigations progressed. At the end of the day, as pupils were reflecting on the skills they developed through this challenge, a shock confession was made by one of the accused! Teams celebrated their successes over the day and explained how they could finally relax once the guilty party had come forward.

What they said:

  • “It has been such a fun day for them: it was great to see their enthusiasm, they haven’t stopped talking about who could have committed the crime and the skills they used to work it out.” – Teacher, Queenswell Junior School
  • “Our group has worked really well because we’ve always made sure that nobody has been left out and I think that shows great team work.” – Student, Queenswell Junior School

Well done on solving the crime, Queenswell!
