The School: Beechwood Primary School

Beechwood Primary School in Leagrave is in their first year or working with Enabling Enterprise to develop important skills in their students such as teamwork and resilience. Already this week Years 1-4 have taken part in Crime Scene Challenge Day where they had to use their Problem Solving skills to work out who had stolen all the chocolate from the school. Today was the turn of Year 5 and 6 to put their enterprise skills to the test during their Future Transport Challenge Day.

The Challenge: Future Transport

In assembly, Years 5 and 6 were set the challenge, by Ronnie the robot, of designing and building a brand new form of transport for the future. Students had to Use their Imagination to come up with initial designs for their future transport and then use their Problem Solving to work out how to spend the budget they were given for their vehicle.

The Results:

At the end of the day, Year 5 and 6 students at Beechwood Primary School were Working in Teams to create their incredible transport prototypes. It was great to see students delegating and completing different jobs in their team in order to ensure their model was finished on time. The Year 6 students then used their Problem Solving skills to subject another team’s design to rigorous testing. Teachers and EE staff were impressed by the students’ creativity and teamwork throughout the day.

What they said:

  • “Some of the students have really impressed me today. They’ve been working together really nicely and some of them focussed really hard on staying positive when things went wrong.” – Teacher, Year 6
  • “We got a point for teamwork as we’ve got much better at listening to each other and taking turns when we speak. We’ve tried to include everyone’s ideas in our final design.” – Student, Year 5

Well done to everyone who was involved.
