The School: London Fields Primary School

London Fields is a two form entry primary school located in the London Borough of Hackney. This is their first year working with Enabling Enterprise developing enterprise skills across the curriculum and we are really excited to work with the school in the future. Today provides an excellent opportunity for the whole school to join together, with students from Year 1 to Year 6 taking part in today’s activities. Focusing on encouraging resilience, problem solving and effective team work referencing real-life occupations, the Challenge Day with prepare students for their upcoming Work Week in school.

The Challenge: Crime Scene Investigation

Today, students take on the roles of crime-cracking detectives and Problem Solving private-inspectors because a terrible crime has been committed in school. With four potential suspects and a wealth of evidence to be assessed, the students must work tirelessly in their teams to find the perpetrator. By taking notes from the crime scene and Listening Carefully to audio tapes, students work together to try and solve the mystery… but can they piece together the clues to determine their key suspect?

The Results:

In Years 1 and 2 the students became forensics experts, exploring fingerprints and listening in on digital evidence. There was considerable consternation that the criminal was still at large, with this motivation teams of students were soon unearthing evidence in all corners of the school. In Years 3 through 6 the teams were looking into the details of the case, taking notes on the minutiae of evidence they located and drawing together an accurate case file for the courts. At the end of the day, everyone had the chance to practice Sharing Ideas as they presented their cases back for the case officer.

What they said:

  • “It’s been fabulous, my class aren’t used to working in a group for the whole day and aren’t always the best with being resilient but today staying positive is definitely the skill I have seen them develop the most” – Teacher, Year 5
  • “I like working in a team today because it helps us to solve problems.” – Student, Year 1

Well done to everyone who was involved.
