The School: Dairy Meadow Primary School

Dairy Meadow is based in Southall, and is in its first year of working with Enabling Enterprise. Already acquainted with the all-important Enterprise Skills from their Greetings Card Challenge Day last term, the Year 5 students were quickly able to get into their task in this new setting.

The Business: Hogan Lovells, London

Hogan Lovells is a multinational law firm co-headquartered in London and Washington DC. Hogan Lovells has around 2,500 lawyers working out of more than 40 offices in the United States, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia.

The Challenge: Listen Up Lawyers

Students had the opportunity to speak to Hogan Lovells employees to find out more about the company, their roles and the law profession in general before going on an exciting tour of the office. After having interviewed the Hogan Lovells volunteers about their roles, students were then given their own legal roles as lawyers for either the prosecution or defence in a mock trial. Using their Problem Solving skills, students had to analyse a range of evidence to come up with and then present their key arguments to a jury made up of Hogan Lovells volunteers.

The Results:

Every team argued their case very convincingly, with some excellent use of persuasive language. The volunteers on the jury remarked that they were very impressed with every team’s presentations, and particularly with their ability to answer difficult questions when put on the spot. Throughout the day it was great to see every student Working in a Team to help and support each other, and we would like to congratulate all students who took part!

What they said:

  • “The day was very organised and planned and the children took part in all the activities enthusiastically ” – Teacher, Dairy Meadow Primary School
  • “It was great to do something different to my everyday job, I was really impressed with how well they analysed the evidence and used their problem solving skills ” – Volunteer, Hogan Lovells
  • “I really enjoyed the presentation at the end, especially because we were able to use our persuasive skills ” – Student, Dairy Meadow Primary School

Thanks to Hogan Lovells for such a great trip day, and to Year 5 from Dairy Meadow Primary School for coming along.
