The School: St. Augustine’s CE High School

St. Augustine’s CE High School have been working with Enabling Enterprise for several years to develop their students’ enterprise skills. Today Year 8 had the opportunity to use and develop their teamwork, resilience and creativity as they worked in their form groups to create a brand new chocolate box for a teenage market. The winning team from each classroom was rewarded with an exciting business trip to PwC and M&G to see these enterprise skills in action.

The Challenge: Chocolate Challenge

Year 8 students were set the task of creating a brand new chocolate box specifically aimed at a teenage audience. They worked together in teams to come up with their initial ideas about flavour, price and packaging design before using their problem-solving skills to find out exactly what their customers would want and how much their chocolate box would cost to make. Teams stayed positive throughout this process and thought creatively to ensure their box would make a profit and be appealing to people their age.

The Results:

It was great to see the Year 8 St. Augustine students really take ownership of their chocolate box and work well together in their teams to produce a really high-quality designed prototype. Teachers were impressed with students’ ability to listen to each other and take on board other team members’ suggestions and ideas. At the end of the day the Year 8 students delivered eloquent and persuasive presentations about why their chocolate box was the best, with every team member playing an important role.

What they said:

  • “It’s great to see the students working with people they wouldn’t normally talk to and actually see them pulling together to get this chocolate box made.” – Year 8 Form Tutor
  • “I don’t normally like stuff like this but I’m really enjoying today, you can actually see what it would be like to set up your own business and how you have to work as a team.” – Student, Year 8

Well done to everyone who was involved.
