The School: Fryent Primary School
Fryent Primary School is located in Kingsbury, Brent and is in their first year of working with Enabling Enterprise. They are keen to develop some key enterprise skills in their students such as teamwork, resilience and problem solving and what better way to do it than through an Enabling Enterprise Challenge Day!
The Challenge: Creative Spaces
The Fryent students were set the challenge by Brent Council to design a brand new community art centre for their local area. In order to do this they needed to use their imagination to make sure the art centre looked innovative and appealing from the outside and had plenty for different people to do inside. The Fryent students also had to use their teamwork when they were building a model of their art centre as there was a lot to do in a short space of time.
The Fryent students worked really well in their teams throughout the day and it was brilliant to see them involving everyone in their team when they were building the model of their art centre and supporting each other with difficult tasks. Teachers and Enabling Enterprise staff were particularly impressed with the problem solving and resilience displayed by students during the day as there were quite a few obstacles to overcome such as how to make their art centre model look like their original design or what different rooms the art centre should have to appeal to all the community.
What they said:
- “It has been so great to step back for a day and let students solve problems on their own and make their own team decisions. Some students in this class find it very difficult to focus in normal lessons but today they have been so engaged and really come into their own.” – Teacher, Year 1
- ” It was so much fun I did not even what to go to break. I liked putting all our imaginative ideas together.” – Student, Year 3
Well done to everyone who was involved.
