The School: Brunswick Park Primary School

Located in Barnet, Brunswick Park Primary are in their fourth year of working with Enabling Enterprise. This means their students are more than familiar with the enterprise skills as they have been able to develop these through a range of Lesson-Time projects, Challenge Days and business trips in the past. Today Year 6 were in the spotlight as they got a chance to put their creativity and their Problem Solving skills to the test in the real world of work.

The Business: Colliers, London

Colliers International is a leader in global real estate, offering comprehensive services to investors, property owners, tenants and developers around the world. A subsidiary of First Service Corporation, Colliers has 502 offices worldwide and employs over 16,000 people. Today a range of volunteers from various sections of the business were on hand to help our students with their teamwork and problem-solving skills

The Challenge: Terrific Towers

Brunswick Park students were set the challenge of designing a new tower for the London skyline and building a prototype out of newspapers. Students had to use their imagination and gain inspiration from iconic buildings around London. The objective of the task was to design a tower their city would be proud of. With a small budget, limited resources and support from enthusiastic Colliers volunteers students worked in teams to design and build their terrific towers.

The Results:

Students work well in their teams to design and build impressive buildings that would make excellent additions to the London skyline. They aimed high, pushing the boundaries of engineering with their unique and modern building designs. Their creativity skills shone through as they finished designing their structures and started to plan the arts focused interior. Staff at Colliers were particularly impressed with how well students were able to explain and present their ideas at the end of the day at the trade fair.

What they said:

  • “It was a fantastic well-organised interactive day! The children really enjoyed themselves and got to use skills they wouldn’t necessarily use every day in the classroom ” – Year 6 Teacher, Brunswick Park Primary School
  • “The students were really creative and worked well in their teams to overcome challenges and building some impressive towers ” – Volunteer, Business
  • “I am so proud of how we put our ideas together and problem solves to make our tower stronger when it started to fall ” – Student, Brunswick Park Primary School

Thanks to Colliers for such a great trip day, and to Years 6 from Brunswick Park Primary School for coming along.
