The School: Oasis Academy Woodview

Oasis Academy Woodview in Edgbaston, near Birmingham City Centre have been busy this year with Enabling Enterprise completing a range of lesson time projects and business trips. Ahead of their upcoming ‘Crime Scene Investigation’ challenge day, Year 3 pupils were excited to visit The Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and they were ready to show off their enterprise skills to all involved throughout the day.

The Business: Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce

The Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) is there to connect, support and grow local businesses. The Chamber of Commerce has helped over 3,000 businesses in Birmingham grow over the last 200 years.

The Challenge: Imaginative Inventors

Throughout their tour of The Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, pupils found out about the different departments and roles of employees within the organisation. They worked together in their teams to identify ‘problems’ to solve and as a technology company they were ready apply their using imagination and problem solving skills to help employees at the Chamber.

The Results:

Pupils from Oasis Academy Woodview did a fantastic job identifying problems to solve and ways to help employees at the Chamber. Through their market research they listened carefully before working in a team to solve these problems and using their imagination skills to design solutions. Teams overcame challenges throughout the day and remained positive. Towards the end of the day each technology company had to share their designs and ideas by delivering a pitch to volunteers from The Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.

What they said:

  • “I’ve loved seeing the enthusiasm of the children and hearing all of their ideas. The day was well organised and the activities were engaging. ” – Teacher, Oasis Academy Woodview
  • “There was an amazing energy at today’s Enabling Enterprise visit and I was so impressed with the ideas that the children came up with. A really valuable experience for them and I hope they take the enterprise skills they’ve learnt today back into the classroom. ” – Volunteer, The Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce
  • “I really enjoyed working as a team to design our gadget that will help people working here! ” – Student, Oasis Academy Woodview

Thanks to The Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce for such a great trip day, and to Year 3 from Oasis Academy Woodview for coming along.
