The School: Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School

Students from Years 5 and 6 at Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School, an Enabling Enterprise school in Kitt’s Green, Birmingham, were excited to learn more about the world of construction and design on their recent visit to ISG Birmingham. Students were particularly focusing on their Working in a Team, Using Imagination and Problem Solving skills, having all successfully taken part in Lesson-Time Projects and Challenge Days in school.

The Business: ISG, St Paul’s Square, Birmingham

ISG is an international construction services company delivering fit out, construction and engineering services. ISG has over 50 offices across Europe, The Middle East, Asia and South America and has been responsible for high profile projects including the 2012 London Olympic Velodrome and Aquatics Centre.

The Challenge: Wonderful Office Workspaces

ISG Birmingham have their offices located in the historic St. Paul’s Square in Birmingham. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to work closely with experienced professionals from the construction services industry to find out more about the jobs they do and the projects they work on. Office Manager Cayleigh welcomed the group and led a tour, highlighting the way in which her colleagues used the office’s different spaces. Being challenged to design a brand new workspace for the ISG workers, the students needed to ensure they pulled together as a team – listening carefully to each other as they shared ideas and encouraged each other to be imaginative.

The Results:

The teams were certainly up for the challenge and enterprise points were easily awarded as everyone was really aiming high to do a great job. They encouraged each other to share imaginative ideas and developed design plans with which the ISG judges, Cayleigh and Quantity Surveyor Rachel, were certainly impressed!

What they said:

  • “The teams have been able to really rise to the challenge. It’s been a great experience for them all.” – Teacher, Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School
  • “‘They were so professional! I’ve really enjoyed working with them.’ Volunteer, ISG Birmingham
  • “The best bit of the ISG visit apart from all of it? Our presentation! I’m so proud of myself and my team.’” – Student, Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School

Thanks to ISG for such a great day and to Years 5 and 6 students and staff from Our Lady’s Catholic Primary school for being a pleasure to work with.
