The School: Lutley Primary School

Lutley Primary School in Halesowen have taken part in their first Challenge Day with Enabling Enterprise: Operation Moonbase! Pupils from Years 1 to 6 worked together in teams to complete their mission of creating a new society on a distant moon. Throughout the day pupils were introduced to a range of key enterprise skills which were developed through lots of interactive moon based challenges.

The Challenge: Operation Moonbase

In assembly, pupils from Lutley Primary School were assigned a mission by the United Nations to explore and set up a society on the new moon Utopia. Students spent the day carefully selecting crew members, designing animals and building new cityscapes to create exciting new civilisations and help humanity. Throughout the teams had to use their Working in a Team and Using Imagination skills in order to come up with the best ideas for their brand new moonbase.

The Results:

Teachers were really impressed with how well students engaged with every task and staff commented on the evident progression in their students skills early on in the day, particularly their Working in a Team skills. Pupils from Lutley Primary were extremely creative, using a range of materials and their Problem Solving skills to complete their mission. Throughout the day opinions were listened to carefully and ideas were shared in a mature manner. This made it easy for adults to award a range of team points to groups for these skills. As the day drew to a close, the teams prepared to pitch their ideas to the rest of the class and thought hard about how they would apply their best presentation skills to help secure votes from their peers.

What they said:

  • “There are some children in my class who struggle usually. Today they are really engaged and taking part. I was worried at the start of the day, but they have proved me wrong! ” – Teacher, Year 5
  • “I am so proud of my Team! We are working on all of our skills, especially staying positive. I would want to take these people to the moon.” – Student, Year 5

Well done to everyone who was involved.
