The School: Beech Hill Primary

Year 6 students at Beech Hill Primary School located in Luton, have been working with Enabling Enterprise to develop their pupils’ enterprise skills and recently took part in the Day in Politics Challenge. The pupils drew on experiences from their previous challenge day to set themselves targets for improvement for their next team work challenge.

The Challenge: Business in a Day

In teams the pupils were set the task of designing, making and selling souvenirs to represent their school or local area. After a team meeting to mind map potential souvenir ideas, the groups had to decide which two they would settle on. It took them no time at all to sketch out designs for their catalogues before using their shopping lists to budget for the materials needed.

The Results:

Creativity was at an all-time high during the manufacturing stage as companies began crafting souvenirs ranging from jewellery boxes to personalised candles. Negotiation skills were then put to the test as pupils had to rush back to the EE shop and attempt to sell the souvenirs for the best price. By the end of this stage profits were booming and companies began preparing to advertise their work to persuade judges to give their teams the final vote.

What they said:

  • “It hasn’t taken them long to come together as a team and make sure everyone is being listened to and has a job.’’- Teacher, Beech Hill
  • “We used our imagination to create these super unique Luton souvenirs which are one of a kind and will soon be going out of stock.’’ – Student, Beech Hill

Well done to everyone who was involved.
