The Schools: Wendell Park and Coppermill Primary

Both these schools are familiar with Enabling Enterprise and making use of the Enterprise Skills through lesson-time projects and Challenge Days. Year 3 from Wendell Park and Year 4 from Coppermill worked in teams across different year groups and really consolidated the Enterprise Skills.

The Business: Oliver Wyman, London

Oliver Wyman is an international management consulting company, helping businesses to solve their biggest challenges. Most recently, this has included the re-branding of Starbucks and McDonalds.

The Challenge: United Jetways Consultancy Challenge

The students were given a comprehensive introduction to Oliver Wyman by the volunteers from the company, exploring what it meant to be to be a Consultant, and how Oliver Wyman work with businesses to help them be as successful as possible. The students took on the role of Consultants and were given the tough challenge of helping the failing airline United Jetways. It was impressive to see how well the students took on this challenge, immediately coming up with a target market and considering how to draw them in through images and slogans.

The Results:

Following the marketing campaign, the students were set the further challenge of working out how to make the company more money through in-flight sales. Taking into consideration the group that they were targeting, they chose a range of products to sell, working out the profit they would make the company. Once these decisions were made, it was time for the students to present to no less than the CEO of United Jetways….and what a fantastic job they did! All teams showed how thoughtful and creative they had been when taking on the role of Management Consultants. Certainly giving the volunteers a run for their money!

What they said:

  • “The children took such pride in what they did today and really took the presentation seriously. They were justifiably proud and it was good to see them working co-operatively within their groups. It was especially pleasing to hear children from other groups wishing their friends well! ” – Teacher, Wendell Park Primary
  • “I was so impressed with the presentations, they were so professionall!” – Volunteer, Oliver Wyman
  • “I was proud of my team, not just of me, because we worked together with new people today” – Student, Coppermill Primary

Thanks to Oliver Wyman for such a great trip day, and to Years 3 and 4 from Wendell Park Primary and Coppermill Primary.
