The School: Claremont Primary

Claremont Primary are in their second year of Enabling Enterprise programmes, with all students having taken part in their first Challenge Day last year, they are all now working hard on their lesson time projects.

The Business: One.Manchester, Manchester

Launched in 2015 when Eastlands Homes and City South Manchester Housing Trust joined together in partnership, One.Manchester is a unique social business that looks to innovative new approaches and partnerships to tackle the issues our neighbourhoods face. One Manchester manage a wide range of neighbourhoods, and over 12,500 homes, across south and east Manchester.

The Challenge: Spread the Word

Over the course of the day, the students were set a tough challenge to choose just one of the many issues that One.Manchester addresses in their local community, and help create a campaign to raise awareness. Having a tour of the offices before the challenge began really supported the students in their understanding. They had the opportunity to ask the staff about their jobs and the impact that they have. It was great to see the students really focussing on their Problem Solving Skills, and sharing their many ideas effectively.

The Results:

The students did incredibly well to understand really complex ideas about how One.Manchester supports people with issues from unemployment, to illiteracy and leaving gangs. Acting out their own television news reports, the students were great at taking on the roles of news anchors and interviewing the beneficiaries from the campaigns. All the teams came up with really clear, and imaginative campaigns, giving One.Manchester some thoughtful ideas for the future!

What they said:

  • “They showed a really good understanding of the of the challenge, and I really liked the different mascots and slogans they came up with” – Teacher, Claremont Primary
  • “The work that they were doing today really was what we do at One.Manchester, and I was really impressed with how they got on with it so well” – Volunteer, One.Mancheseter
  • “I was proud of myself for sharing my ideas, and for aiming high at somewhere that is a place of work” – Student, Claremont Primary

Thanks to One.Manchester for such a great trip day, and to Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 from Claremont Primary School for coming along.
